My most fragrant Magnolia: Magnolia x wieseneri, a review of one of my best scented garden plants

Magnolia x wieseneri, also known as Magnolia x watsonii, is probably my most fragrant Magnolia and of course one of the best scented garden plants in my collection. The name Magnolia x wieseneri refers to any plant originating from the hybridization of Magnolia obovata and Magnolia sieboldii, including their backcrosses, so technically, as long as a plant has both these species in its ancestry, and no other Magnolia species, is considered belonging to Magnolia x wieseneri. This complex of hybrids include plants that grow as large shrubs or small to medium trees, as specimens 9 metres tall are reported; this hybrid is very hardy, and can grow in USDA zones 5 to 8, therefore is highly recommended if you want a scented large shrub or small tree in this climate zones. Magnolia x wieseneri is deciduous and from spring to autumn displays beautiful bright green leaves; after the leaves sprout in spring, the white flowers appear, generally between late spring and early summer: they are generally 10 - 15 cm across, with bright red stamens: the flowers are absolutely gorgeous, but even more than for the beauty of the flowers, this Magnolia is grown mostly for the incredible scent!!! Magnolia x wieseneri is not very commonly available to find for purchase, but definitely worth looking for; I bought it last year from Burncoose Nursery (their website is https://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/inde... ): it didn't bloom the first year, but I am very happy it bloomed beautifully this year and as you can see, I received a very nice specimen, so I can highly recommend this nursery.
