In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Saifuddin Kitchlew. Kitchlew Studied at Cambridge, became a barrister and joined Indian National Congress. Saifuddin lead the protest in Punjab after the implementation of Rowlatt Act in March 1919. He and Mahatma Gandhi and another leader Satyapal were arrested. On 13 April People gathered at Jallianwala Bagh to protest against Kitchlew’s arrest where they were fired upon by General Dyer on Command of Governor Michael O Dwyer. Kitchlew joined the Khilafat and Non-cooperation movement and was one of the founding members of Jamia Millia Islamia University. In 1924 he became the General Secretary of All India Congress committee. He was awarded the Stalin Peace Prize (now known as Lenin Peace Prize) in 1952.
