Weed Composting | Slow Compost | All the Plot Rubbish | Prunings and Roots | Green Side Up

We are told quite rightly to not perreniel weeds onto out compost heaps, and with good reason as most will survive the quick speed of normal composting and regrow on our beds if we spread it when it is done. This leaves us with the problem of what we can do with it. I have a rubbish compost heap, that is a very long term compost heap for all the fruit tree prunings and Doc, Nettle and Couch roots, they all go on this heap and it is contnually piled on year after year until the bay is completely full.

It is full today so I start a new one, layering my old fruit tree bushes on the bottom, I dont bother cleaning the soil off the roots as this is full of natural life that will kick start the system itself, in around a months time I will cover it until I need it next year once again, when the layering will start all over again. By the time the second bay is full, the first bay will be ready to be used and I will spread/use that on a small area, just in case any weed remains..and sometimes it does!
