📝 Comments :
I didn't really know what this lens was capable of when I bought it for my birthday. I wanted to treat myself and see what 135mm would do for me. I was looking for a lens for B-roll and ultimately had to decide between this and the 70-200mm f/4 G OSS. I ended up buying the 135mm f/1.8 GM, and I was blown away. Optically, it's the best lens I've ever owned. The quality, from picture to build, is absolutely there. The images are crisp, clear, sharp, and full of contrast and color, even when using an APS-C crop to get a 200mm equivalent focal length.

Key Features and Drawbacks
Focal Length: 135mm
Maximum Aperture: f/1.8

Image Quality
Crisp, clear, and full of contrast and color
APS-C Crop: Provides a 200mm equivalent focal length

Sadly, there is no optical stabilization on this lens. It’s also of a slightly older design, so there is no notch on the provided hood for adjusting a circular polarizer. The lens is quite heavy due to the glass elements, which is fine for me but might not be for others. It’s also really expensive. A good affordable alternative is the 85mm f/1.8 G, which is used similarly and achieves similar results. However, if you have the money and want a really premium lens with excellent reach, this is a fantastic choice.

Personal Experience
I would describe the 135mm f/1.8 GM as a secret weapon in a photographer's kit. It doesn’t always come out, but when it does, it tracks subjects at a distance with amazing image quality, blurs backgrounds incredibly well, and captures faraway objects. It's my favorite lens, albeit also my most expensive one. For portraits, it can bring the background very close to the subject, giving an artistic result.

Alternatives and Recommendations
Some people may consider the 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II lens instead, and I would say that there is a lot of overlap. If you do professional shooting and need reliable and steady images, I would recommend that lens over the 135mm f/1.8. Although the lack of stabilization isn't as much of an issue due to Sony cameras’ in-body image stabilization, it can still make a difference and ruin shots or footage if you don't have it.

If you want a lens that is artsy and beautiful with excellent reach and night capability, the 135mm f/1.8 is a great choice. Keep in mind that it’s sometimes cheaper, depending on the time of year or discounts. Since I don't do any paid professional sports work, I don't need a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. If I were employed to capture images of zebras, fast cars, or basketball players, I would probably go for that lens over the 135mm f/1.8. As it stands, I need a lens to capture film during the day or night, and the f/1.8 aperture really helps my footage. It’s great for faraway cityscapes, monuments, bridges, animals, and B-roll.

Conclusion
The only downside I can think of with this lens is the price and the need to move around a lot to frame the subject and background to get the desired effect. Sony could fix the notch problem by releasing a new hood, but given their marketing strategy these days, it’s more likely they will redesign this lens and sell it at a higher price.
