Tip #1: Plan Ahead
Use tools like topographic maps to find water sources along your route in advance, so you're prepared when you hit the trail.

Tip #2: Carry A Water Filtration System
A water filtration system or water purification tablets will allow you to make sure any water you find is drinkable.

Tip #3: Use Snow As A Water Source
Clean snow can be a great source of water, you can melt it with a camping stove. Don't forget to bring a fuel supply for your stove!

Tip #4: Wring Dew From Vegetation
In an emergency situation, a piece of cloth can be used to absorb dew from vegetation, which you can then wring out and collect the water.

Tip #5: Survey The Area From A Higher Elevation In Mid-Morning Or Early Evening
These are the best times to see the glint of water in the distance.
