Male magpie chases hawk; they share a bale; good day! Australian birds + Banana update

He shows up foraging and leaves to go chase a hawk. Well...a raptor. Not sure which brand. He shows up asking for a bale later and she turns up as well. What is happening at 5:58 – she's scratching and he's...crouching and making noises? He forages on the upturned bale after she leaves. And that banana tree is on the way out.

Pleasant afternoon. I often watch him just wandering around. That might not be of too much interest so I put in time stamps so you can skip ahead. The chasing hawk footage is to show he's actually doing some work around the place.

It looks like a fairly good bale. But what the heck was he doing while she was scratching? It's very odd. It can't be a courtship ritual, can it? Maybe he really likes it when she shows a bit of leg... Or is he criticising her scratching technique?

And I only realised how rough the banana tree was looking. I wonder if it was the second fall that wrecked it or if it was in the process of dying from the time it fell over. Ah well...
