The majestic Angsana tree was introduced to Singapore in the early 19th century. Back then, this beautiful tree was planted extensively throughout our city’s landscape. Over 20,000 ‘instant’ Angsana trees were planted between 1969 and 1982 to provide immediate greenery and shade along roadsides.

But in the 1980s, a weird phenomenon started to happen. The Angsana trees started wilting and the speed at which they were dying was startling. A task force was set up, and over the next few months, their work presented like a murder investigation, with preliminary suspects being proposed and eliminated with twists and turns along the way. Who was the murderer?
