I believe this was lock 25 of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. Upper division.

Hello everyone. This was a spur of the moment video and my canal knowledge is very minimal. That being said I believe this was lock 25 of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation System or Lehigh canal. The canal was built in two sections, an upper and lower. The upper was built between White Haven and present day Jim Thorpe PA. The lower between Jim Thorpe and Easton PA. The locks on the upper division were absolutely enormous and this is one of them. The upper division was abandoned many decades before the lower division. Replacing the upper division of the Lehigh Canal was the Lehigh and Susquehanna Railroad. This was a subsidiary of the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. The Lehigh and Susquehanna would later be leased by the Central Railroad of New Jersey and today makes up sections of the D&L trail. Thank you for watching. 9/14/24
