MoroccoAI Conference 2023 - Keynote - Dr. Samy Bengio

In an enlightening keynote, Dr. Samy Bengio, Senior Director of AI research at Apple and a distinguished AI researcher, delves into AI's reasoning and unseen generalization challenges (GOTU). He introduces the Degree-Curriculum algorithm to enhance AI’s reasoning capabilities, underscoring the need for foundational research beyond scaling models. Bengio advocates for foundational algorithmic research to drive impactful, efficient AI development, especially in resource-limited regions like Morocco.

Through his analysis of logical functions and network architectures, Bengio uncovers how AI can advance beyond pattern recognition to true reasoning. His talk not only critiques the limitations of current Large Language Models but also proposes innovative approaches for efficient, small-scale AI, urging a focus on foundational research to address bias, fairness, and privacy in AI development.
