S1 E1 Pressing Modern Age Marvel Comic Books with Digital Code Inserts by KaptainMyke. This episode features 2014 Marvel Comics AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #4 Cindy Moon as SILK. Most Marvel Comics modern age comic books now feature a 1" digital code insert on the last 4th or 5th page of comic book. When pressing a comic book with a digital code, it's important not to imprint that 1" square onto the last 5 pages of your book! In order to do this safely and properly, it's recommended to use 100 or 110 lb cardstock paper before and after the digital code insert page. If you do not have cardstock paper, you can use inkjet paper but you will need to use 2 sheets at each page all the way to the back cover.

The technique shown uses 2 large 15"x15" sheets of aluminum 1/8" thick. Using aluminum plates maintains a flat hard rigid conductive surface for the heat to transfer to comic book. When using steel or aluminum plates, the technique shown requires 1 magazine backer board above and below your comic book. When using just the provided silicone pad mat and metal platen on press machine, I would recommend 3 magazine backer boards above and below your comic book. Pressing damp books from a humidity tank chamber also requires 3 magazine sized backer boards during press. The magazine backer boards act as a clean sterile easily disposable surface for your Silicone Release Paper (SRP) and comic book to rest inside of. Using no such protection can cause accidental indentations, divots, fingerprints, dust particles and other debris that can imprint into the covers of your comic book. Always perform work on comic books in a clean and sterile environment. Our hands (and being human) causes all sorts of accidental damage to comics during and after pressing.
