Gold Coast to Tenterfield – Rocky River Road – One of NSW BEST dirt roads.

Gold Coast to Tenterfield — it just kept getting better.
It was time to make our way home after visiting family, staying with Mum & Dad on the Gold Coast, so we headed out early through Canungra, Beaudesert and Rathdowney where people were out in their numbers commemorating Anzac Services.
Plenty of great twisty roads steered us to Maroon where we soon had the pleasure of beginning our gravel riding for the day on Burnett Crk Rd. Switching from sealed to gravel, the day kept getting better, with a nice stint on Paddy’s Flat Rd edging us towards the feature of the day — Drake to Tenterfield — no, not NSW best road, the Bruxner Hwy, but rather Long Gully, Rocky Creek & Billirimba Roads.
This mostly gravel route didn’t disappoint — it’s a beautiful ride — better than the similar Bridal Track and Araluen Road. This road snakes along a number of creeks and rivers including Long Creek, Timbarra River and Demon Creek amongst others. The surface is excellent, sometimes a little slippery, but always undulating with steep climbs, lovely scenery and hundreds of bends. And the recent rains ensured the Causeway crossings were all running with no less than 30 crossings adding to the experience.
This was so enjoyable — it’s a must-do ride.
