The 2016 Kia Forte5 is a car that just might take Kia to new heights. The Kia brand continues to produce at a high level, however, they haven't had a star in the compact market -- until now. The Forte is equipped to take on all competition, but what is even better is that it's truly a complete car inside and out. Here are five reasons to put the Kia Forte on your wish list.
Sophisticated Style
Audi's chief designer is now Kia's president and his influence is pretty evident. In every detail, the Forte5 hatchback looks unique. Apart from its sleek body, you also get premium touches like LED headlight accents and taillights. The SX trim level has some top-notch 18-inch wheels that look as if they were on a European sport sedan, not an economy hatchback.
Spirited Performance, Stingy Fuel Economy
The Forte5 SX offers some of the best performance of any compact. The 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder kicks out 201 horsepower (versus 173 hp for the base EX) and it'll do 0-to-60 in about 7 seconds. The sport-tuned SX's handling and precise steering is unbeatable. Simply put, the Forte5 SX drives so well, it can even make Volkswagen GTI shoppers think twice. The 1.6 turbo still gets a sufficient 24 miles per gallon combined, including 29 mpg on the highway, which is a solid rating for this type of performance.
Spacious Hatchback
Some small hatchbacks have limited trunk space, but the Forte5 has other plans. There's 23 cu ft. of space behind the rear seats, which is competitive with even larger sedans. With the rear seatbacks folded down there's ample space almost comparable to a mini SUV. In fact, that's one way to think about the Forte5: a great alternative to a crossover SUV. As an added bonus, the Forte is easier to park, better on gas and won't set you back as much cash.
Remarkably Low Price
Speaking of cost, the Forte5 is very reasonable on the wallet. Even though it comes packed with features, you don't have to shell out for this hatchback. The base EX model starts at less than $20,000, and the turbocharged SX only costs another grand or so. When comparing cost, it's clear the Forte has a value that rivals will have a hard time matching.
Three Available Body Styles
Our test model is a hatchback, but keep in mind there are two other body styles, as well. The Forte Koup is a sporty 2-door version, and they also make the mainstream Forte sedan. We especially like the nifty Forte5, but it's always good to have options. With the three choices for body styles, the Forte isn't just a strong alternative for hatchbacks such as the VW Golf and Mazda3; it also competes with sedans such as the Chevy Cruze and Toyota Corolla and 2-doors like the Honda Civic Coupe.
