Gopnath Mahadev is situated on the beach of Talaja district near Bhavnagar, the history of Shiva temple is thousands of years old. Different folk tales are associated behind the establishment of Gopnath Mahadev, according to a mythological story, Gopnath Mahadev was founded by Pandavas in their exile, it is said that after traveling the sea from Surat city, a cow came to this place every day. and milk used to flow from the cow's lap at one place, the villagers brought an ax and got the Shivling on digging at that place. In this way the Bhu Shivling itself was established. Many other such folktales are associated with Gopnath Mahadev.
