Why do digital firms hyperscale AND hyperspecialize?

Digital firms are becoming significantly bigger than their industrial counterparts, yet they are much more specialized. We explain this combination of hyperscaling and hyperspecialization by the greater scalability of digital resources (and scalability of demand for digital products). Digital firms can learn to identify and maximize these advantages.
