Soneva Kiri setting the bar for a memorable experience


This resort has been touted by many as one of the best. Soneva brand is not your typical brand of resort. This resort is sustainable, built with renewable resources namely bamboo and wood, lessening the resort’s long-term impact on the environment. The buggy’s are all battery powered. The company tries to minimize the use of cow related products, less beef and less cow milk, as less impact on the environment. The employees are called hosts and they are the most warm and friendly that I even tried to give them a tip, they said thanks but did not accept. Felt like it was a sincere friendship with hopes that everyone who stayed at Soneva had an enjoyable and memorable experience, as simple as that.

The hosts recommend that guests disconnect from the outside world and focus on nature and time with family. They provide a wide array of activities(volleyball, safaris, adventure tours stargazing, surfing), facilities(library, observatory, The Den), and many opportunities to enjoy one’s stay on Koh Kood.

Our stay was amazing, we had 2 Bayview Pool Villa Suites and 1 Sunset Ocean View Pool Villa Suite. We had one section of the end of the road that our host called our little village for our stay. We all had 3 buggies that had our own separate covered parking spots, it was a real nice set-up. While the kids went swimming, one sister-in-law and her husband were taking photos and videos for their social media. While my other sister-in-law and husband took a nap and rested after they been driving since early morning. My wife and I headed to South Beach and took the surfboard out with staff assisting me to get some rides. It was fun to say I finally surfed in Thailand. One of the other guests were playing beach volleyball with his son, and I joined them and we took on the staff in a nice friendly game. He was from Bangkok with his family for the weekend, very nice and friendly. We headed back as the time quickly passed and it was almost time to get dinner. We drove back to our Villa and quickly cleaned up.

It was nice, as we all got ready to have dinner at Soneva’s The View for Japanese & Peruvian Fusion. We had our small caravan of people as we were able to go the restaurant in time for pictures and see the sun setting. The service and food was on another level.

The next morning we had the amazing breakfast spread with so many fresh fruits and vegetables, pastries, juices and smoothies and breakfast foods that were really healthy. The kids wanted to check out the Den, as it is geared towards kids, so we left the kids there as we packed and got ready. Upon returning we, we saw all the children from the youngest to our oldest, participating in the activity with other children staying at the resort. Our daughter was very impressed and said she had the most fun and thought the hosts of the Den did an amazing job engaging everyone as they were all attentive, calm, listening to the hosts when we arrived back. We too were very amazed with the great job done by the hosts at the Den. Before we knew it, it was already time to check out and we took our buggies to the main entrance and were sent off by our wonderful host and his counterparts. We were really left in awe after this stay as Soneva is not like any other resort we stayed at before, that we understood why so many keep coming back. We hope to come back in the future.
