Airfix Swedish Warship VASA -The Completion/ Rex Stewart

Описание к видео Airfix Swedish Warship VASA -The Completion/ Rex Stewart

Much information was gathered relative to the swedish ship Vasa, and the colorscheme seem to have been an issue in professional/contemporary circles. However, as a professional artist, builder and historian, I chose to adapt the colorscheme that was introduced to the maritime community by way of the late Bjorn Landstrom. It was from his research that I decided to partially rebuild and modify detail(s) that were nicely engineered in those vintage Airfix kits of yesteryear.

My first such build began in 1980 by way of the first kit SAINT LOUIS. It was similar to VASA , minus the French designs on her topsides that featured the much heralded Fleur-de-lis. That first Airfix model paved way for others to follow; and since then, I was able to create my Trilogy Series starting with SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS (Airfix version titled ROYAL SOVEREIGN), the HMS PRINCE and the VASAwhich is featured here.

All three of those models I produced as study models for the purpose of showing how those ships were actually rigged -along with added details of deck furniture not shown on models past or present. Of course those models may be out there, I don't know. However, I raise my glass to all those executives and community people of my young years who wrote the checks and supplied me with the best references to arrive where I am today. These men and women saw my vision (and purpose).

Today, I enjoy having these works grace the homes and offices of the younger group of professionals who have a strong connection to our global maritime. Because of this new wave of collectors, I continue to pace myself accordingly with these miniature pieces

As aforementioned, the first video showed the work in progress -as well as the tedious application for (and with details). But...this video show a more concise study (in miniature) of how shipwrights of that period built their vessels. And with that, I leave the viewer to study these details in its finest form.

Thanks for viewing!
