Since the Vasa discovery and raising in 1961, many maritime entities rose to the occasion to celebrate this find. It was no longer a mystery relative to the design and structure of a 17th century fighting ship.

As a result, Airfix took the helm to introduce its first kit of the vessel -followed by other companies in wetting the appetite of us seasoned hobbyists in those days. This was the 1970s.

Much information was gathered relative to the ship and the colorscheme seem to have been an issue in professional circles. However, as a professional builder (and historian), I chose to adapt the first colorscheme that was introduced through the research of Bjorn Landstrom. It was from his research that I decided to partially rebuild/modify the Airfix kit and present it in the preceding images shown in this video. Also, after studying the vast amount of models on this subject, I decided to do a complete overhaul on the rigging based on Dutch and British applications since those were the two principle naval powers of that time.

To this end I'm pleased to have absorbed what I learned -applying these personal findings to this model. This first video will show the work-in-progress procedure(s) I use to modify the hull and decks. The second video will conclude with the sails, rigging and completion to make it a one of a kind.

Thanks for viewing!
