DESTINATION:
El Ultimo Brinco Waterfall in Rincon
Driving directions: Take Route 115 and turned onto Route 411 at the Puma gas station. There were parking pull offs on the side of the side of Route 411 across from the Communidad Campo Allegre sign. :The Falls are on the little side road right at that sign. If you want to go, you can walk down the road and before the bridge (right after the cross) on the right, you will see a little path in the grass at the 17.9 km mark — one has to step over the guard rail. You take it down for less than 2 min and you are at the waterfall. Watch for flash-floods in any river during or after a rain.

WHY VISIT PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory with a landscape of mountains, waterfalls and the El Yunque tropical rainforest. In San Juan, the capital and largest city, the Isla Verde area is known for its hotel strip, beach bars and casinos. Its Old San Juan neighborhood features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and El Morro and La Fortaleza, massive, centuries-old fortresses.

RINCON, PUERTO RICO
Rincón is a town on Puerto Rico’s west coast, known for its beaches. Punta Higuero Lighthouse overlooks Domes Beach, with its pounding surf. Central Sandy Beach is lively. Steps Beach is the site of Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, home to parrotfish and hawksbill turtles. South along the coast are quiet Caribbean beaches like Corcega. Offshore, coral reefs surround tiny Desecheo Island.

WHY EXPLORE THE PUERTO RICO JUNGLE
El Yunque National Forest is a tropical rainforest in northeastern Puerto Rico. From El Portal Visitor Center, a walkway winds through the surrounding treetops. Trails run to La Mina waterfall and Mount Britton, then up to the high-altitude dwarf forest. In the south are ancient petroglyphs, made by the area’s indigenous Taíno people. The forest comes alive with the nightly calls of coquí tree frogs.

WATERFALL SAFETY
Never jump off waterfalls or dive into plunge pools since rocks and logs can be hidden beneath the surface of the water. And currents that can drag and keep you underwater. Never play in the stream or river above a waterfall. Rocks can be slippery and currents could take you on a deadly trip over the falls.

PUERTO RICO SPIDERS
Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States, is home to various creepy crawlers, including five main types of spiders. The island's hot and humid conditions make the area an ideal habitat for certain arachnid species. Spiders help the land they live upon by feeding on smaller insects, which protects Puerto Rico's fruit trees and crops.
