Why Does England Have 3000 Deserted Medieval Villages?

Описание к видео Why Does England Have 3000 Deserted Medieval Villages?

All across England are thousands of abandoned and deserted medieval villages. Once during the Middle Ages, these were thriving communities based around the farming or agricultural industry. However today it is estimated that 3000 of these villages or sites are left abandoned and have been lost of forgotten. It seems that at a period of time, people seemed to leave behind their lives as farmers in these settlements, to go somewhere else or to do something else.

However what if the reason why these villages have become deserted is much more sinister and is linked to the Black Death that battered England and Europe in the mid 14th century? Today we look at the reasons why these villages were deserted, including looking at changes in the way land was used, a shift involving towns and much more. So join us today as we look at, 'Why does England have 3000 Deserted Medieval villages?'
