SC upholds 103rd Constitutional Amendment providing 10% quota for the EWS. The 103rd Constitution Amendment Bill was passed in Jan, 2019. EWS beneficiaries will continue to avail quota for admission into Govt, Pvt & unaided institutions. Persons with less than ₹8 lakh gross annual family income are eligible for EWS quota.

A 5-judge bench of SC delivers 3:2 majority judgment. Bench included CJI UU Lalit and Justices Dinesh Maheshwari, S Ravindra Bhat, Bela M Trivedi & JB Pardiwala. 10% EWS quota did not pose any danger to the Basic Structure of the Constitution: Supreme Court.
