TWO WAY LIGHTING TESTS – WHY DO WE TEST – WHICH WIRES ARE UNDER TEST – WHAT DO WE TEST AND WHY

In this LearnElectrics video, we will look at the two-way lighting circuit tests that we must make. The video is about why we do the tests a certain way and what the tests tell us about the circuit.

We’ve often been asked why there is a certain order to the testing, and why we make those particular tests. And another frequent question is about which wires, which conductors, are actually being tested at any one time. We cannot test every cable at the same time, so we have an order to the testing, a sequence of tests, that ensures that we do test all the conductors.

Two-way lighting tests are easy to do, we just need to be methodical. And it is one of those skills, that once learnt, will stay with you.

We begin with a basic two-way lighting circuit, with a three-plate ceiling rose and then apply the various tests to the circuit, identifying which conductors are actually under test at any one time.
