Gibb River Road WA - Derby to Mount Hart Part 1 [June 2024]

Rambling Up the Gibb in 2024!

We have had a fantastic start to the Gibb! We have given ourselves enough time and are taking it easy so that we can come out the other side unscathed.

So far Tunnel Creek and Mount Hart have been our high lights but I'm sure there's more to come.

Tunnel Creek was slightly challenging to get into at the beginning of the trek but well worth it. After a short, very cold swim the walk is easy with a bit of wading through water. The history of the place is fascinating, and the beauty of the caves is memorable. Make sure you go all the way to the end! A few tips-take a head torch/torch and water proof bag if you want to take a camera/phone and wear good shoes for navigating rocks.

An oasis in the desert is how I would describe Mt Hart. We didn't have much info on Mt Hart when we turned up but as we came up the drive there were glamping tents, grassed camping areas and a cute alfresco eating area and bar (and they do a shuttle from the camp ground to the bar every night). There was an idyllic water hole for swimming as well as a stunning gorge for a bit of a hike. They staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and have a wealth of knowledge about the area.
