Описание к видео BEAUTIFUL SCENIC DRIVES AT ZION NATIONAL PARK | ZION CANYON SCENIC DRIVE | ZION MOUNT CARMEL HIGHWAY

Zion National Park in Utah has two amazing scenic drives – the famous Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and the stunning Zion Mount Carmel Highway and Mount Carmel Tunnel. Both scenic drives in Zion National Park are worth the trip.

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is six miles long and starts at Canyon Junction. The scenic drive travels up the canyon and follows along the North Fork of the Virgin River. Along the drive, you will pass by the Court of the Patriarchs, Zion Lodge, The Grotto, Big Bend and ending at the Temple of Sinawava. In the winter months, you can drive your personal vehicle on the scenic drive. From April through October, visitors must use the Zion Canyon Shuttle to see the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.

The Zion Mount Carmel Highway also starts at Canyon Junction and travels to the east side of the park. On the drive you will zig zag up the mountain towards the famous Zion Mount Carmel Tunnel. Built in the 1920s, the tunnel is 1.1 miles long and has six large windows cut through the massive sandstone cliff. To create the tunnel, first windows were created into the cliff face above Pine Creek Canyon. Once created, crews were able to access the interior of the cliff and they started to carve through the rock to create the tunnel. The windows also provided much needed ventilation, lighting, and a place where rock debris could be pushed out of the tunnel.
