Gen 5 Bosch Performance CX – next-level control! The MBR Show

Описание к видео Gen 5 Bosch Performance CX – next-level control! The MBR Show

We spotted it under wraps at Eurobike, but finally the new gen 5 Bosch Performance CX motor is officially here, and Danny has been out to ride it at the Bosch HQ near Stuttgart, and on the trails of Finale Ligure in Italy.

The headline stats seem unspectacular. Now power increase to compete with the likes of the DJI Avinox motor found in the new Amflow PL Carbon. Instead the new Bosch CX sticks with 85Nm and 600W, a long way behind the DJI’s eye-popping 105Nm and 850W. So what has Bosch done, and will it be enough to keep it relevant as one of the top motors on the market?

For starters the new motor is smaller and a little lighter (-100g). It uses the same mounting points as the SX motor, which gives frame designers more flexibility to position suspension parts and the potential for longer dropper posts.

There’s no more rattle from the motor when coasting, which is a huge improvement. And the motor is quiter in operation.

It’s powered by two new batteries with the latest cells. A lighter unit with 600Wh and a long-range 800Wh unit that’s 400g lighter than the old 750Wh battery. Both are compatible with the 250Wh range extender, which is why some brands like Santa Cruz, with the Vala, and Orbea, with the Wild, have gone for the smaller, lighter 600Wh unit that can be supplemented by the range extender for longer rides.

There’s a new display behind the handlebars, just like Shimano’s, that gives all the info you could need in a more discreet package.

Inside the Bosch CX motor are additional inertia sensors, that provide information about gradient, acceleration, deceleration, and trail surface to the brain. This gives the latest gen 5 CX motor the best reactivity and sensitivity we’ve ever ridden, with the ability to take on technical climbs that were previously impossible, It’s a huge step forwards in performance, and although it doesn’t tear your face off like the DJI, the power delivery is top notch.
