How to Do a Sexy Half-Up Bouffant Hairstyle

In this video, Mahalo hair stylist Jamie Pierce shows you how to do a sexy, half-up bouffant hairstyle.

What You'll Need
---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Hot rollers
* Wide-tooth comb
* Closed-end bobby pins
* Open-end bobby pins
* Curling iron
* Lightweight to medium hairspray
* Small sectioning comb

Step 1: Prep Your Hair
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Set your hair in hot rollers. Once your hair has cooled, remove the curlers and run your fingers through your hair to loosen the curls. You can also run a wide-tooth comb through it for more volume.

Step 2: Section and Tease
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Separate a section of hair near the top of your head and clip the top portion of it so that it is out of the way. Tease the underneath portion of it by taking a small section and running your comb up from the base in short, firm strokes.

Step 3: Tease the Sides
---------------------------------------------------------------------

When you tease the sides, take a section on the diagonal away from the front of your head and tease in the direction that you want the hair to go. Usually, that means teasing towards the back of the head.
Make sure you save a small section around the frame of your face so that you can pull it back over the teased portion to conceal it.

Step 4: Pull it Back

Using your wide-tooth comb, smooth out the curls. Make sure you are combing in the direction you want the hair to go.
Take a small section from each side of the front of the head and bobby pin it in the back with your close-end bobby pins. You can then use your open-end bobby pins to secure a few additional pieces in the back to hide the foundation bobby pins.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Finish up the style however feels best and natural for you. Tousle the curls until they fall the way you'd like. Tease your bangs if you want. Just make sure you set the style with hairspray once you're done.
