When Patients Leave AMA | LEGO Hospital

When I was in college, I went to the ER with what I described as, “the worst headache I’ve ever had in my life.” The doctor suggested a spinal tap to see if I had meningitis. I questioned him harshly, declined, and left Against Medical Advice (AMA).

I went home and was terrified to fall asleep. It was one of the worst nights of my life and I cursed myself for leaving AMA but was too stupid and proud to go back.

Leaving AMA isn’t always the best way to go, but I guess sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Just don’t insult the medical team working for your well being. Always remember that they are there for YOU. Whereas nobody is ever 100% right, I think it’s always better to get an educated point of view before making an emotional decision.
