Well-equipped riot police pushed demonstrators off some central Belgrade
streets on Monday (3/2), and several demonstrators were arrested. As the riot police converged on demonstrators from several directions, pushing demonstrators off the streets in front of them, some of the protesters began throwing stones and other objects at the riot police. At least one policeman was injured.
Meanwhile, the American charge d'affaires in Belgrade, Richard Miles, met with opposition leader Vuk Draskovic and expressed his support for the demonstrators. He also condemned the use of violence by police.
