Auckland winter morning fog, wet and chilly winter morning in July 2024

Auckland weather in winter can be quite cold. During June, July, and August can range from 1.5 – 15.5 degrees Celsius (35 – 60 degrees Fahrenheit). There is likely to be rain on the North Island during this time of year, though it is not as cold as the South Island which can see a lot of snow.

What causes fog in Auckland?

As the air cools, its humidity increases until condensation begins. If the ground is dry the air will lose some water to the Earth's surface as dew. Once the ground is wet, fog will develop after a few hours. If it is cold enough for frost to form, then fog formation is likely to take another six hours.
