In this video I shall discuss about cold chain with all the MCQs.Cold chain is the store, transportation and distribution of vaccines in the right condition from the site of manufacturer to the site of consumer.
The cold chain storage temperature of vaccines in India is +2 - +8deg C.
The cold chain is maintained at the following levels:
a. State
b. District
c. Primary Health Centre
d. Subcentre and village level
e. Session level.

a.State level the equipments used to maintain cold chain are Walk in Cold Rooms and Walk in Freezers for a duration of 3 months.
b. District level equipment used is Large Deep Freezers and Large Ice lined refrigerators for a duration of 1 month.
c. PHC level equipment used is Small Ice lined refrigerators and small deep freezers for a duration of 1 month.
d. Outreach sessions are carried out with the help of vaccine carriers and day carriers that are lined by ice packs.The temperature can be maintained for duration of 48-72 hours.
At subcenter and village level no equipments are used to maintain cold chain. Sessions are carried out with the help of vaccine carriers and day carriers so maximum chance of failure of cold chain is at subcenter and village level.
