In 1971, Walter P. Chrysler, Jr. made a transformational gift of art to the City of Norfolk. The objects ranged from ancient Egyptian sculpture and Roman glass to contemporary works by Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol and found their new home at the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences. The institution, which opened in 1933, was renamed in Chrysler’s honor.

Over the years, Chrysler gifted more than 10,000 works to the Museum. In this film, hear from people who worked alongside Chrysler. Learn about how his remarkable collection served as a catalyst
