Happy filming people! We're still going on with our short series "Epworth | The Home of Thieves". In this episode you going to get an insight into the other remarkable places in Epworth, Zimbabwe.
Epworth is a dormitory town located just outside Harare, and has a population of over 200 000 residents. Just like all other ghetto settlements in Harare, Epworth has shanty, clustered, overpopulated areas as well as nice medium density areas too.
In today's episode I took a walk to the Domboramwari (Rock of God), a landmark which mainly a great mass of rock located along Chiremba Road in Epworth. The rock is said to be possessing great spiritual meaning to the community. With that being said, it has a foot imprint which is believed to be of God. When you try to fit in your foot, it will fit perfectly well no matter the size of your foot. I managed to see some imprint but it is not the correct one because my foot didn't fit well.
On the foot of the Domboramwari is the Domboramwari Shops, and in a walking distance from the dwala is situated the Epworth Local Board Offices, Epworth Poly Clinic, Epworth ZRP Police Station, Epworth Post Office, Epworth Magistrates' Court as well as the former SPAR Supermarket now LIGI TERRITORY.
I then visited the Epworth Quarry Dam which I used to see coming from school when I was a student at Epworth High. The dam is amidst of rocks, and doesn't have an inlet river or outlet, it's just like a pool in the middle of rocks. It is said that whilst the whites were doing quarrying at this place, they happened to burst an underground river and that's how the dam was formed. The workers who were there drowned, and the earth moving machines used in mining are still on the bed of the dam today.
The dam is a DEATH POOL since then, robbers kill people and throw them into the dam and some commit suicide by jumping into the dam. I do remember an incident in 2018 when the water in the dam turned brownish-red and people started saying that it was the blood of people who died there. But to some extent that's not true because I guess it was just an issue that the water level had declined and because of rust from the machinery the water turned its colour.
