RIVERBOAT SHUFFLE | Stephanie Trick & Paolo Alderighi

Hoagy Carmichael, an important contributor to the Great American Songbook, was an avid jazz fan and his love of jazz comes through pretty clearly in the songs he wrote. He not only composed standards like “Stardust” and “Skylark,” but performed his compositions as well, both on record and in movies. He also had a gift for interesting melodic lines. He composed his first hit in 1924 and dedicated it to Bix Beiderbecke with the title, “Free Wheeling,” and eventually renamed it “Riverboat Shuffle.”
