Edible Storytelling: Using Food as a Narrative | Marente Van Der Valk | TEDxAUCollege

In her talk, Marente will guide the audience through some of her most recent art pieces, offering an introduction to culinary art and the artistic process behind it. Her pieces centre around the social aspects of eating, mindful food consumption and most importantly using food as a device to tell stories. By focusing on the wealth of the edible plant world and the use of the whole vegetable where possible, as well as considering meat and fish to be a treat, Marente strives to have a minimal impact on the environment herself and to inspire others.
Marente van der Valk is a UK/NL-based culinary artist and chef. She graduated in 2012 from a MA in Design and Environment at Goldsmiths University of London. Currently she coordinates the Food Lab at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
