Doobies Brothers' Patrick Simmons "South City Midnight Lady" Live on KOME Radio/Blazy & Bob Show

San Jose's own Pat Simmons was our special guest on one of our monthly KOME Blazy & Bob "Breakfast Club" shows. It was always my goal to give our live audience something special at these shows. We were told weeks prior to the show not to ask Pat to perform live. I asked anyway. I told him that "South City Midnight Lady" was my favorite Doobies song, that our excellent band, The Blazers, were prepared to play it, and Pat agreed! He was along with Doobies drummer Michael Hossack that day. After a bit of feedback at :29, you can see Pat give Michael a quick glance of possible regret, but as the song continues, he begins smiling at the band, discovering how well they rehearsed the song. That's the fun of live radio. No rehearsal, hope for the best. This is one of the best moments from 7 1/2 years on The Blazy & Bob Show. I got a chance to thank Pat several times over the years.

Pat enjoyed it so much, he did a second song with the band, then invited Blazy & Bob, The Blazers, and KOME listeners to sing live onstage with the Doobie Brothers in concert at Shoreline Amphitheater. Now THAT is something special for radio listeners! (You can hear that performance in another video on this channel.)

This video is dedicated to The Blazers, a group that was arranged with on-air auditions. They were Silicon Valley employees and excellent musicians who showed up at the crack of dawn to take these shows to the next level.
