CREATING A COVER / TITLE PAGE IN GOOGLE DOCS
Creating a cover or title page in Google Docs in a broad sense means inserting an image into the doc and writing something over it, but to make a really good looking cover page, a few other adjustments need to be made. Like setting margins size, creating borders, correct text placing on the doc, etc., and that’s what we’re doing in this video.

ADJUSTING PAGE MARGINS
First we’d want to adjust the page margins to get rid of empty space around the cover we’re making. For that go to “File” on the toolbar, and then down to “Page setup”. There in the menu, in the column on the right, the default size of the page margins is 1 inch, and normally I do it 0.25 to leave some space on the page for our next step, and you do what suits you better. Then hit “OK” to finish it. That was the first step, if you need it of course, yet this is a demonstration of tools you can use to create a cover page, not a step by step tutorial, since this all is absolutely individual.

CREATING A BORDER
Then we create a border. There’s no direct way to make a page border in Google Docs, but there are a few easy to do workarounds. Go to the “Insert” on the toolbar, then drag the cursor to “Table” and create a basic 1x1 cell. Now expand it to suitable proportions by press-holding on its bottom margin and dragging it down to near the page end. Then we’ll make our border a bit thicker to make it look more like a border. Go to the “Border Width” item on the toolbar on top and select the last option, the thickest one. And you can also change its color - go to the “Pen” icon and select the color you’d like to use for your border.

INSERTING IMAGE & DRAWING ON IT
Then we insert an image inside of the border and writing a text on it. That is performed from a drawing workspace, so you enter it by going to the “Insert” on the toolbar and pressing it. Then drag the pointer to the third line “Drawing” and select “New” on the right. That will open a drawing canvas over a doc, where we do all the stuff. First insert the image by clicking the rightmost icon on the toolbar, you will be offered to get it from a few sources, but on the video I'm using the fastest way by just dropping it there from my computer. There it is in the drawing workspace, and from this point you can write over the image using a toolbar on top. For that you create a text box by clicking on the last but one icon on the toolbar and drawing a figure over an image. Then you type anything you want in there, then you may want to format the text just like you normally do in the document with other tools and etc. And you can then move the text box to where you want it to be and so on. Once completed, hit “Save and close” at the top right corner and the image will appear inside of the border in the document.

FINAL EDITS
To finalize we center it on the page. Select the image and use an item on the toolbar on top. Then you can expand it as much as you want by pulling from either edge of the image, but don’t forget to leave space to specify the Author's name and the Author's institution like school, university or a company. Then correct the border in accordance with image size and so on.
