In this four part Ask the Expert Ambulatory Forum session, Kate McBride, RN, MSN and Rachel Nicoletti, BSN lead the discussion on understanding how to maintain sexual health and intimacy. James Shaw also joins the conversation to share his experience with adjusting to his body after his injury and the novel surgery.

BIOS:

Kate Mcbride is the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Sexual Health Rehab Service and has over 30 years experience in clinical care, education, research, and program and policy development.

Highlights of her career include leading a collaborative initiative to improve perinatal care for women with SCI and managing the project to develop provincial guidelines for sexuality and intimacy in care facilities in BC. Kate has a Masters in Nursing and has been an instructor with British Columbia Institute of Technology and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. As CNS, Kate promotes evidence-informed clinical practices and programs, which will lead to improved patient care outcomes in sexual health.

Rachel Nicoletti graduated from Douglas College in 2010 with a Bachelors’ of Science in Nursing. She developed a strong interest in sexual health while working with women in the community setting. This led her to become certified in Reproductive Health in 2012, and expand her practice to working with youth in sexual health clinics. Rachel joined the Sexual Rehab Team in 2017 and has developed a passion for her work in providing sexual health education and care to clients with disability or illness and their partners.
