MOUNTUNE PTU BRACE INSTALL! | FOCUS RS

Time for more custard!

This is the latest performance mod that I have installed on my Ford Focus RS MK3 and it is the PTU brace aka the power take-off unit brace!

The Mountune PTU brace aka power take off unit brace is a direct replacement of the stock part. The stock part is just fine for stock and stage 1 (such as the Mountune FPM375 or M380 package) applications but beyond this it becomes a weak point. The stock brace is a thin piece of pressed steel which could potentially bend or crack under much increased load that a stage 2 or beyond package would provide from increased power and torque and this could cause cracking of the PTU casing causing all kind of leaky problems that you really don't want!

Mountune say as torque and power are increased over standard, the Focus RS' PTU casing can fail due to torsional load and strain caused from hard launches and aggressive driving.

Engineered and manufactured from high strength alloy, the Mountune PTU Brace Upgrade provides improved rigidity through robust CAD design and features an additional mounting point compared to the standard stamped steel part.

Reduces chance of PTU case failure with a long lasting anodised finish, the Moutune PTU brace is machined from high strength aluminum. The lower weight of the aluminium means that Mountune could make a much beefier PTU brace to withstand additional forces and end up with a part that weighs approximately the same as the stock piece!

I show the process of removing the stock brace / steel plate and then how to install the new Mountune PTU brace, starting with the removal of the intercooler hard pipe for easier access and then removing all the bolts before installing the Mountune PTU brace!

The installation didn't take too long and wasn't too difficult although working in that area under the RS is a bit of a tight squeeze so getting a couple of the new Mountune bolts in place was a little tricky!

Now that I have the PTU brace installed, I have peace of mind when it comes to adding more power and torque with regards to the strength of the brace and how well it will perform to avoid any issues so definitely worth doing!
