Plein Air Sketching with Oil Pastels

Today I went out plein air sketching with oil pastels on unprimed canvas. I had a handmade sketchbook (made by my friend Lesley - check her out on Instagram @lesleyplum) which contains many different sketching supports.

Every day I open the book to discover what is next to sketch onto - a great way to challenge myself to work on things I hadn't considered before!

I was plein air sketching in my local landscape just as the leaves were turning orange and brown as Autumn takes hold. The oil pastels worked fairly well on the un-primed canvas sheet and added a certain softness to the scene, which I quite liked.

Luckily it was reasonably mild today as I'm still wearing shorts!
