Any change in the tone of your voice is known as hoarseness.Anything can cause hoarseness.When you are going to over use your voice then it causes certain damage to the voice box and that leads to the change in the tone of the voice.
Shouting,talking in spite of cold can cause damage.There is a condition known as acid reflex where acid comes up and irritates the throat and causes chronic change where in the voice box is thicken and becomes red.All these cause change in the tone known as hoarseness.
If you have pain or cough while talking then its a sign or symptom of having hoarseness..
