Conserving USS Monitor’s Skeg Assembly ✨ 🏗️
For the past 10 years, our Conservation team here at The Mariners' has been working to conserve the skeg assembly of USS Monitor! This winter, the two-ton, 28-foot-long assembly became the largest assembly of USS Monitor to complete its treatment to date and is now right side up for the first time since the ship was launched on January 30, 1862.

Explore the "why" and the "how" behind the amazing ground-breaking conservation techniques that our team has adapted and developed to treat these massive objects.
