VIC High Country Ep 11 - Feb 23 - Woods Point to Barkley River Jeep Track via Webber Spur Track

Well I almost didn't make the start of the recon trip with a few mates, a wire broke of the terminal of the temp sensor on the Ranger and the gauge was going up and down flat out. A quick stop at Echuca and some running repairs got me on the road again, nothing like a 16 hour drive to get to camp. The boys were well and truly on there way when I arrived and it took me a few beverages to catch up to them. It wasn't till the next morning I realised how nice of a camp ground we were at. Plenty of space, a river flowing through and good facilities. After breakfast we made our way to Woods Point, we had only driven through previously so it was great to be able to stop in and spend a bit of time there looking around. After a coffee and a good chat to the locals it was time to make tracks, and it didn't take long to get ourselves into some trouble. What looked like two very well used tracks tuned into dead ends, with one of them on the side of a steep hill which put a shiver through me that's for sure. After some new winching techniques tried and more time than we would have liked I was back down the hill and we could try to start our journey again. A scenic drive to our lunch stop on the Goulburn River, were we checked the water depth and temperature (cold), before another fairly standard high country trail took us to the top of the Barkley River Jeep track, which we though would be a short cut to where we were trying to get to for camp that night. Lets just say in the next episode you will see why that 2km track took us a couple of hours to get down.
