Rainbow schlieren-based visualization of ebullition cycle of a single vapor bubble under saturated nucleate pool boiling regime is presented. Importance of various sub-processes associated with the bubble cycle has been highlighted. These sub-processes include bubble inception followed by its growth, the dynamics of the thermal boundary layer (superheat layer) that envelops the growing bubble, scavenging of the superheat layer as the bubble departs the heated substrate. Dynamic changes in the shape of the bubble as it moves in the bulk fluid (from nearly spherical to top hat followed by oblate ellipsoid shape) along with the formation of wake vortices at the edges of the vapor bubble have been clearly brought out. Further details of the work may be seen in S. Narayan et al., "Rainbow schlieren-based direct visualization of thermal gradients around single vapor bubble during nucleate boiling phenomena of water, International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2018 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijmultiphas....
