Let's Drive to Sunrise, Mt. Rainier National Park

Описание к видео Let's Drive to Sunrise, Mt. Rainier National Park

Built in 1931, Mount Rainier's Sunrise Road still ranks among the most beautiful drives in the country. From the park's White River entrance, just off Washington State Route 410 (the Chinook Scenic Byway), the Sunrise Road twists and turns its way 16 miles (25.7 kilometers) into the rich alpine meadows of the Sunrise Visitor Center, near the mountain's northeastern slope. As it climbs to an elevation of over 6400 feet (1950 meters), the Sunrise Road becomes the highest point in the park reachable by car, offering panoramic views of Mount Rainier, its massive Emmons Glacier, and the jagged ridges of its surrounding peaks.

Like most of the roads leading into the park, however, the Sunrise Road is buried in snow for most of the year limiting its opening. Park officials typically close the road in early-October not to reopen it again until late June or early July.
