Paramount Newsreel, "Truman's Speech to Congress: Truman Doctrine," narrated by Gregory Abbott. On March 12, 1947, President Harry S. Truman gave a major foreign policy speech to a joint session of Congress, outlining what is known as the Truman Doctrine. The speech asked Congress to support democracy and peace in Greece and Turkey by providing money, military, and civilian aid. This newsreel shows scenes of Greece with information about the troubles it faces, in addition to excerpts from President Truman's speech.
