New Peugeot 508 SW Plug In Hybrid 2024 - Visual OVERVIEW, interior & exterior

The Peugeot 508 SW brings Gallic flair to the estate car market. This facelifted version retains the svelte styling that made its predecessor stand out, with feline LED lights front and rear plus a long, low roofline. Practicality hasn't been overlooked either thanks to a capacious 530-litre boot.

Inside, Peugeot's distinctive iCockpit places a small steering wheel low down, so you view the instruments over the top. It's a matter of taste whether you'll like this layout. At least entry is easy via the frameless doors. Materials quality impresses too.

Under the hood, petrol power rules after diesels were dropped. A 1.2-litre triple is sweet if lacking punch. Alternatively, a plug-in hybrid produces 225hp by combining a 1.6 petrol with an electric motor. This slashes emissions, but the transition between power sources isn't seamless.

Keen handling balances the slightly firm ride, although adaptive dampers are an option. Precise steering belies the wheel's small size, while grip and composure are plentiful through corners. An auto gearbox tends to blunt responses by shuffling slowly between ratios unfortunately.

Overall, the 508 SW majors on style and practicality. Its driving experience shows French flair, but isn't outstanding. Rivals like the BMW 3 Series Touring have classier interiors and are better to drive. But few can match the Peugeot's dramatic styling.

If you're seduced by the looks, don't expect a faultless all-rounder. This is a great cruising machine thanks to the space, refinement and eco-friendly plug-in hybrid version. Just be ready to overlook some dynamic shortcomings in return for the individuality.
