Vantage Point Archery sent me a pack of the new VPA Omega single-bevel broadheads a while back and I finally had a chance to test them out.

Single bevel broadheads have a lot going for them, as they are durable and offer great penetration. The downside is they can be difficult to sharpen. VPA has tried to fix that issue with the Omega broadheads, which feature what VPA calls "layflat" sharpening technology.

I decided to put that to the test. I started off using 150-grit sandpaper, followed by a 600-grit stone and a 1000-grit stone, before finishing it up with a light stropping. I came away very happy with the results, as the edge was sharp and the bevel had a not-quite mirror finish...but pretty good considering my limited sharpening skills.

I also had a chance to send the VPA Omega broadheads down range. Fixed blade broadheads can occasionally be difficult to tune, but it didn't take too much effort on my part to get them flying very well at 20 yards. I'm not sure how they shoot with field points, as I don't have any 200-grain field points to match these broadheads, but so long as they group together at 20 yards, that is a great start.
