Using Global Forest Watch to Explore Active Fires and Trends (English)

Although wildfires are a natural occurrence within some forest ecosystems, new data on global trends in forest fire activity over the past two decades shows forest fires are getting worse. As such, it is more important than ever to understand where fires occur so more effective responses can be developed.

Global Forest Watch (GFW) now provides annual data on tree cover loss from fires through 2021, as well as alerts in near-real-time, so users can both assess historical trends and take action to put out and prevent fires. Our data helps users better understand where fires are taking place and what is driving them to help inform future policy.

This webinar on the tree cover loss from fires data and fire alerts on GFW will teach users how to navigate the fire data on the GFW platform and use it to identify areas damaged by wildfires, so they can respond to ongoing fires, develop effective fire management strategies, and target restoration efforts to make landscapes more resilient to future fires.
