What is Reinforcement in

Описание к видео What is Reinforcement in

When you're new to ABA some of the terminology can be confusing. In this video we'll talk about what reinforcement is.

ABA is all about teaching skills. We try to change behaviour and increase independence.

One of the ways we do this is by using reinforcement.

Everyone responds to reinforcement. Sometimes we need tangibles (things we can touch) and sometimes praise is enough.

There's a big difference between bribery and reinforcement in ABA.

Many opponents of ABA argue that we're teaching children to rely on tangible objects in order to 'perform'. I like to highlight two things:

EVERYONE works to get stuff. No matter how much you love your job, you wouldn't go every day if there wasn't a paycheque in it for you.

We always pair a reinforcer with social praise. This increases in the value of the praise as it is matched and presented with the reinforcer.

Reinforcement is the key to changing behaviour!
