I was co-hosting a webinar when I first heard about Katharina, and Wine Not the Brand. My co-host mentioned her, then there were so many comments about her and what she’s doing that I just had to meet her.

I’ve had so many crazy ideas in the past, like I’m sure many of you have, but I usually talk myself out of them. Katharina and her husband had one too – putting wine in pouches so they could take them jet-skiing without worrying about broken glass. Katharina thought it was just a silly idea, but her husband had already ordered a box of pouches online, so she made some samples and listed them online, to prove what a silly idea it was. Only it wasn’t. They sold out – fast!

In this episode, Katharina describes this wild ride, and the challenges they’ve had to overcome in launching their product. While global wine sales are declining, yet instead of embracing a new source of demand, the industry has been pushing back and resisting change – worried about “quality” and perception, from a new generation that is not.

Why are we still not listening to customers? When are we going to embrace the people and ideas that have the potential to save the wine industry?
I recommend this episode to all the innovators, and entrepreneurs out there, but I also urge EVERYONE in the industry to listen to this episode, and just think about what we can do to embrace these new ideas, and support those who are trying to save this industry, for everyone!
