Before You Left: Remembering the Legacies of River Phoenix and James Dean {Collab With Caitlin}

Throughout our lives we will have people that come and go; people who will have a great impact, whether we realize it at the time or not. Whether it’s through individuals and chance meetings, or from books and movies that become precious memories in their own rights, they become part of the foundation of who we are. They are the stories that stay with us.
James Dean and River Phoenix are considered to be two of Hollywood’s most famous tragic stars. Both were immensely talented and well liked. Both died so suddenly, so young. Stories of beautiful youth cut short by death are not. They leave us with unfulfilled possibilities. What could have become of them? How could things have turned so badly?
But there is more to a story than its final chapter. Whether it was through their characters or their own personal lives, River and James gave it their all. They loved and they believed with all of their hearts. These are the lessons they left us; these precious gifts that we may not understand upon receiving, but they stayed with us. There is good that can be found in everyone and everything. It’s worth holding on to.
